FAQs

My Child is nervous, what can you provide?

If your child is nervous about learning to swim, then we can offer confidence-building classes (Splash & Play) where parent/guardian will join us in the pool. It is the perfect way to start. If the parent/guardian doesn’t swim then 1:1 lessons are recommended until a basic level of water confidence is reached. If neither of these are a viable option, arrangements can be made that the parent/guardian can stay on the poolside to encourage the child.

What do we need for lessons?

It’s super easy to prepare for, all you need is a swimsuit and towel. Goggles are optional, and we provide all equipment including buoyancy aids, boards, toys, etc for all swimmers.

It’s our first lesson, what do we do?

This is highly dependent on the location you registered for, so feel free to email, text or call us to discuss but inform reception you are here for your lesson with RKL Swims, and they will direct you through to the changing areas. Change and proceed to the poolside where our team will meet you, introduce themselves, call registers and then start lessons. If there is a lesson being taught, please wait patiently to one side until one of the instructors comes over. This is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Can I watch my child throughout the lesson?

There is no spectating on the poolside, but every venue has a designated waiting area for parents to sit and chill. Parents are not permitted to leave the site during lesson time. As stated above, if none of the above suits you, we can arrange for you to stay on the poolside if necessary.

Who will be teaching my child? Are they trustworthy?

All our swimming teachers are fully qualified instructors holding ASA or STA qualifications and DBS checks. Staff are also regularly trained by RKL Swims to deliver our unique methods of swimming lessons, to ensure that all individuals are catered to. On top of this, all locations will have a lifeguard present to ensure your child’s safety.

How will my child be accessed? Any additional costs such as certificates?

At the end of each course of lessons, swimmers will undergo a formal assessment. Parents will receive a slip of paper or email (sign-up condition dependant) indicating whether the swimmer has achieved all learning outcomes and can advance to the next class, or if the swimmer needs to repeat the course until all outcomes are met. With this being said, teachers perform assessments every lesson to ensure that our lesson plans reach their criteria and needs, to ensure beneficial learning. If distance milestones are obtained, such as 5 metres, 25 metres, etc, swimmers will be given a certificate and badge to show this, however, there are no additional costs for these awards. This is all covered by your subscription to our lessons!

Our Guide to Booking

If you are uncertain about which level to book, please refer to the information on our levels below.

We recommend all beginners start at Level 1.

Swimmers will initially follow the STA framework, which focuses on building water confidence and developing basic water skills.

After completing Level 6, swimmers can advance to higher levels, where they will learn more technical aspects of swimming.
